The theme of identity, as well as that concerning otherness, race and differences (dear to German culture), is central in Edith Stein’s personal and intellectual experience: it’s precisely the starting point of her reflection about the unity and the complexity of the human being, as well as of the meaning of his existence as an individual and as a human subjectivity open to intersubjectivity. After having illustrated the meaning and the value which the concept of person (as expression of an identity and of humanity) covers in Stein’s existential and educational experience, as well as in her pedagogical reflection, the present contribution intends to focus attention on the category of Einfühlung, which the philosopher identifies as the indispensable intellectual attitude for the foundation of a «relational humanism» and of a more human society, identified by confront, dialogue and understanding.
