After dealing with events regarding the discovery of the Excerpta Constantiniana de legationibus and their editing by Fulvio Orsini (Antwerp, 1582), the essay focuses on Orsini’s philological and exegetical work on fragments taken from Appian’s Roman History, particularly on frg. 3 De Boor (= Samn. 1 Viereck-Roos). Furthermore, it presents Orsini’s comment on this fragment (Vat. lat. 1419, ff. 92r-93r; appendix 1) and his letter to Gianvincenzo Pinelli of the 24 June 1581 (Ambrosianus D 423, f. 234r), up to now unpublished (appendìx 2).
