The manuscript Sangallensis 558 presents, previously to the hagiographyc document of the Memoria beati Michaelis archangeli (BHL 5948), a short composition about Saint Michael, drawn on the Monte Gargano legend, but realized by employing the initial lines of Juvencus’ third book of the Gospels. The document, first published here, bears witness to the knowledge and reception in San Gallo of the work of Juvencus at the beginning of the 9th century.

Abstract

Dans le manuscrit Sangallensis 558 le texte hagiographique Memoria beati Michaelis archangeli (BHL 5948) est précédé d’un poème dédié à Saint Michel insipiré de la légende michaélique de tradition garganique mais qu’utilise les premiers vers du livre III des Evangelia de Juvencus. Nous publions ici le document inédit de ce poème qui constitue un témoignage important quant à la connaissance et à la réception de l’ouvrage de Juvencus à l’intérieur de la bibliothèque abbatiale de Saint-Gall au début du IXe siècle
