Financial engineering instruments in support of infrastructure investments. A case study

This research intends to investigate the processes of funding for infrastructure, through financial engineering instruments. Specifically, this study illustrates the role and the results obtained by these instruments during the 2007-2013 programming period; focusing the attention on those funds that invest both in instruments for public-private partnership or other similar instruments, as included in an integrated plan for sustainable development (urban development funds). In particular, with regard to the initiatives “Joint European Support for Sustainable Investment in City Area (Jessica)” carried out during the last programming period, this research outlines the first results achieved with the case study method and with reference to the Italian context, suggesting some considerations regarding to the use of this financial instrument during the current programming period.
