"Celso, Orazio e la Musa rogata"

Il contributo propone una rilettura congiunta delle epist. 1, 3 e 1, 8 di Orazio al fine di chiarire il senso del sibillino praeceptum finale affidato alla Musa (v. 17) nella seconda epistola, indirizzata a Celso Albinovano, il ruolo della mediazione della divinità al suo interno (v. 2 Musa rogata), la coesione fra le due parti principali che la compongono, il rapporto di Orazio con il giovane Celso, poeta emergente e segretario di Tiberio, e i termini dell’ironia nei suoi confronti.

This contribution proposes to re-interpret two of Horace’s Epistles, namely epist. 1, 3 and 1, 8, closely connected, with the purpose to clarify the meaning of the final enigmatic praeceptum with which the poet entrusts the Muse (l. 17) in the second epistle addressed to Celsus Albinovanus. At the same time it aims to shed light on issues such as the role of mediation attributed to the goddess (l. 2 Musa rogata) inside the letter, the cohesion between its two main parts, the relation between Horace and the young poet Celsus, as well as the rhetoric of irony employed towards him.
