The intense development of research on Latin literary production of the late antiquity which we have witnessed in recent decades has naturally also included the transposition into modern languages of the testimonies that have come down to us. Even the figure of Sidonius Apollinaris is at the center today of the interest of scholars of late ancient Latin literature in that delicate phase of European history. The exchange of epistles between Sidonius and his sodales therefore assumes an important connotation in the face of the new situations and historical issues that characterize 5th century Gaul, first of all the advance of the ‘barbaric’ component in society and in the political life of the time.
