The use of the Adult Attachment Interview in clinical and expert survey context

L’Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) è un’intervista semistrutturata che indaga lo stato della mente rispetto alle esperienze di attaccamento fatte durante l’infanzia. Permette di ottenere informazioni circa le esperienze che il soggetto ha vissuto nei primi anni di vita nell’interazione con le figure di riferimento, ma anche sul modo in cui la persona accede a tali esperienze e sulla coerenza mentale con cui si rappresenta tali relazioni. Lo strumento gode di buona attendibilità e validità. Pur essendo stata utilizzata inizialmente in contesti di ricerca, l’AAI si presta, per le sue caratteristiche, ad essere utilmente impiegata anche in ambito clinico e peritale, in tutti quei casi in cui viene richiesto di valutare le competenze genitoriali.

The Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) is a semi-structured interview which investigates the adult state of mind regarding attachment experiences occurred during childhood. It allows the interviewer to collect information about what the subject has experienced during the first years of his life while interacting with his caregivers and about the way he mentally approaches these experiences, as well as about his ability to make coherent representations of these relationships. The instrument is highly reliable and valid. Although the AAI has been largely used in research, we suggest to consider this interview reliable and helpful in clinical and expert survey contexts in order to gather a wide variety of information for the evaluation of parenting skills.
