The Italian front of the First World War is normally given scanty attention by foreign historiography, so much so that it was defined ‘the forgotten front’. Nevertheless, it constituted a considerably form of lightening in favor of the better-known fronts in east and west. Italy had been an ally of Germany and Austria-Hungary for over 30 years, but sided in 1915 alongside its age-old rival, France, obliged to deal with the problem of organising a military force in the most co-ordinated way possible, the latter being led by a single inter-ally command. They thus managed to fight side by side, although becoming friends was not ever feasible.

Abstract
The Italian front of the First World War is normally given scanty attention by foreign historiography, so much so that it was defined ‘the forgotten front’. Nevertheless, it constituted a considerably form of lightening in favor of the better-known fronts in east and west. Italy had been an ally of Germany and Austria-Hungary for over 30 years, but sided in 1915 alongside its age-old rival, France, obliged to deal with the problem of organising a military force in the most co-ordinated way possible, the latter being led by a single inter-ally command. They thus managed to fight side by side, although becoming friends was not ever feasible.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
