In the first part of this paper I reconstruct the sequence of the events happened to Rudolf Hercher’s personal library after his death (1878) and the role played in them by Mommsen, Wilamowitz and Alfred Eberhard. In the second part I focus on the manuscript notes written by Hercher on his Ellendt edition of Arrian’s Anabasis, now held by the library of University of Bari.
