This article deals with the theological and metaphysical implications of the principle of the unity of truth (presented in the papal bull Apostolici regiminis) in the passage from Scholasticism to Modern Philosophy. The article aims to analyze the role played by this principle in grounding the Modern metaphysics, focusing on both Francisco Suárez’s Disputationes metaphysicae and René Descartes’ Letter of Dedication to the Meditationes de prima philosophia. Thanks to Suárez and Descartes, the systematization of the concordance between theological and philosophical doctrine of truth is realized. Indeed, both these thinkers tried, each in his own way, to accomplish the indications of the papal bull with the purpose of metaphysically instituting the correspondence between theological and philosophical truth.
