La ricerca sviluppata in questo volume, relativa alle sculture di piante e frutti realizzate in bronzo e in altri metalli preziosi nell’antica Grecia, è stata impostata guardando agli specifici approfondimenti che la stessa classe di materiali richiedeva. Gli studi, della metà dell’Ottocento e quelli della fine degli anni Venti del Novecento, si erano occupati di questo argomento non in maniera monografica ma solo agganciando i manufatti ai loro monumenti di riferimento. Ne è scaturito un percorso di analisi archeologica e insieme di confronto con le fonti antiche che ha consentito di tracciare valutazioni antropologiche, legate al culto religioso. Il confronto viene stabilito tra la cultura greca e quella del Vicino Oriente, con la Magna Grecia e il mondo italico.

The research developed in this volume, relating to the sculptures of plants and fruits made of bronze and other precious metals in ancient Greece, was set up looking at the specific insights that the same class of materials required. The studies, from the mid-nineteenth century and those of the late twenties of the twentieth century, had dealt with this topic not in a monographic way but only by linking the artefacts to their reference monuments. The result was a path of archaeological analysis and comparison with ancient sources which made it possible to draw anthropological assessments, linked to religious worship. The comparison is established between Greek culture and that of the Near East, with Magna Grecia and the Italic world.
