A new Latin inscription, in marble, discovered in 2007 in the Cathedral of Bari, makes known the text of an epigraphy placed by the decurions, probably in the municipality of Bari, for a wealthy ‘Augustalis’. The person honored returns the honor of the ‘bisellium’ with a considerable cash payment to the ‘annona frumentaria’. The new document, which dates from the advanced second century, is an interesting testimony both of the existence of a chapter of municipal expenditure for the purchase of wheat, at this stage, and of the leading role of the populus, which calls twice, through the 'postulatio', the honors for the 'Augustalis'.
