The recurrence of the 1700 years since the proclamation of the Edict of Milan, by Constantine the Great, creates the perfect opportunity for a review of some aspects of the art related to this epochal moment. A more careful analysis of the rare iconography of the Adoration of two Magi, in the Roman catacombs, allows to date more precisely a fresco of Trani (BA) at the fourth decade of the 4th century. Moreover, the fresco (basically unknown) can be considered the first pictorial evidence that Apulia possesses within the Early Christian era, and the only one with the theme of the Adoration of two Magi outside the Roman Empire. The graphic reconstructions will facilitate the understanding of the compositional scheme of the fresco, which boasts a significant role in the Apulian scene and, furthermore, in the age of Constantine.
