This paper investigates in a more detailed overview the Slavic presence in Apulia between the 11th and the 13th century. In particular this study focuses on the female slavery in Bari and its implication in the social dynamics. Through the analysis of many documentaries sources and the fundamental support of iconographical testimonies, this survey tries to detect the cultural connection between the Balkanic territories and the Apulian cities. The aim of this study is to compare the scenes of the Bath of Jesus, included in the scheme of the Nativity, both in Apulia and Balkans to underline differences and similarities; the figure of the suckler, in fact, seems to be the perfect subject for the reconstruction of the clothing habits of the female slaves. There will come out the strong influence that the Byzantine Empire had in terms of clothing style, which became very similar during its political domination, in both the territories from the nth century on, until the spread of a new 'Occidental' fashion. The frescos of Cappadocia and other provincial lands will be useful to demonstrate the strong connection between Apulia and Balkans during all the centuries of the Middle Age.
