The city of Rome plays a prominent role in the life and work of Sicilian historian of political thought Rodolfo De Mattei (1899-1981). The focus of this article is the civic and cultural influence of Rome in De Mattei’s writings on three authors who remained central to his thinking throughout his career (Petrarch, Machiavelli and Campanella), highlighting the political value of concepts such as history, homeland and Christianity in his theoretical and methodological reflections.
