The aim was let also the children understood what Homeland, war, and military heroism were; let them become familiar with the most tragic aspects of the war, such as routine violence. During Italian lessons, teachers read and give children to read schoolbooks replete with war education to support the Homeland, a children’s tailored narrative, newspaper articles on war and increasing patriotism during the war development. The teaching History program proposed additional study about the independence wars, the birth of the Kingdom of Italy and several “patriotic” lessons as “Enthusiasm of the Italians for the war”, “Italians emigrants get back to Homeland to fight the war” or “24th May 1945”.

Durante la Gran Guerra la sociedad experimentó importantes cambios que permearon el mundo de la formación, los grupos de pares, las actividades asistenciales, todas ellas transformadas en instrumentos usados para el apoyo patriótico. En el ámbito escolar hubo una detallada revisión de los programas, los cuales fueron vinculados al tema del nacimiento del reino de Italia y a toda una serie de lecciones “patrióticas” como: “Entusiasmo del pueblo italiano hacia la guerra”, “emigrantes italianos vuelven a la patria para participar a la guerra” o “el 24 de mayo del 1915”. Todas las lecturas, no sólo las de tipo pedagógico, sino también los romances y las poesías, fueron deliberadamente llenadas de alusiones directas y sentimientos legados al conflicto y al apoyo al “frente interno”. El objetivo era que todos entendieran, incluso la población civil, mujeres, ancianos y niños, qué es la patria, la guerra, el heroísmo militar, e, incluso, familiarizarlos con los aspectos más trágicos de la guerra, como la violencia cotidiana. En este sentido, fue creada una narrativa para la infancia ad hoc, representada por el “Corriere dei piccoli” (Mensajero de los pequeños), el periódico más leído y conocido. Con el pasar del tiempo, los artículos de periódico con contenidos bélicos aumentaron a medida que se desarrollaba el conflicto.
