In the Foreword to English Words Abroad (Görlach 2003), N.E. Osselton praises the BAAL prize winning Dictionary of European Anglicisms (DEA), edited by Manfred Görlach (2001) and, looking to the future, he points out that "the need is now for in-depth (and perhaps ongoing) studies of vocabulary infiltration as seen by specialist scholars from within their own countries". As a scholar working in corpus translation studies, I intend to take up this challenge by putting forward a methodology for the systematic study of technical Anglicisms in business communication, this being a specialized language variety where the impact of English is particulary profound owing to the status of English as the lingua franca of world trade in the present globalized economy. In this paper, after reviewing recent Italian studies of Anglicisms, I will outline the main features of the proposed methodology, focusing on issues pertaining to a) object of study; b) corpus design and compilation; c) corpus processing tools and procedural steps. Abstract

In the concluding section, I will address the pedagogic applications of my envisaged research programme.
