“Ce discours fabuleux et joli”. L’échec de la représentation dans l’Enfer poétique (1585) de Benoît Voron

B. Voron’s Enfer poétique (1585), a morality play intended for scholarly study, was composed to be performed in Saint-Chamond’s schools, where Voron was the headmaster. Notwithstanting that, the nature and structure of the play (absence of actions and mouvements, absence of setting, repetitive structure, abondance of lists) seem to suggest the failure of the performance, the play being a mere play of words. Tha morality play seems to have been written to assure the transmission of notions, the exercice of memory, the practice of declamatio and disputatio.
