In this paper we present a protocol for the analysis of corpora of Italian L2 called SAIL2. This is the first system of phonetic annotation devised for a second language. The structure of SAIL2 is multilinear and polyfunctional. It has been developed on Praat platform and consists of five levels of labeling. SAIL2 allows to carry out an accurate acoustic analysis, both segmental and prosodic, and a morphosyntactic classification of lexical elements. The collection of data takes place automatically by means of special interrogation scripts. Crossing the data on the various levels is also possible to detect the linguistic features of the interlanguage as well as the progresses made by learners over time.
