Mali versus an proba oratio? (Epigrafia latina su instrumentum e carmina epigraphica)

In the very rare Latin inscriptions on instrumentum developed into a full sentence, there is no reason for seeking at any rate the traces of mali versus, that is of an awkward attempt of metric composition (with the aim at setting them in the collections of CLE), while they show actually the ordinary feature of a proba oratio, sometimes embellished with valuable figures of speech. Otherwise, if an actual metric or rhythmical feature is recognizable, they are usually quotations from an individual poet, or of probable versus populares, or of phrases and proverbs in current use.

Nelle (assai rare) iscrizioni latine su instrumentum dotate di una qualsiasi elaborazione testuale, non c’è motivo di cercare forzosamente le tracce di mali versus, ossia di un intento goffo e maldestro di composizione metrica (per poterli così inserire in raccolte di CLE), quando si presentano nella forma ordinaria di una proba oratio, talora con qualche apprezzabile artificio stilistico o retorico. Quando invece vi si riconosce un effettivo andamento metrico o ritmico, tali testi risultano di solito citazioni o di poeti determinati o di presumibili versus populares, o di espressioni correnti o proverbiali.
