The contribution originates from an analysis of the status of the sites, in particular the Italian case, by an acknowledgment of the importance of local contexts, of their identity, through a territorial reading relative to history, relationships, dynamics and possible interventions and actions arising from this approach to implement a local development that derives its value from the vocations and characteristics of the area, developing original trajectories. This analysis will derive some reflections on the concept of territoriality and natural vocation on the process of development of local systems, on the risk that they are too self-referential, and that policies do not favour local development, often resulting in actions related to global dynamics. In this regard we will consider local systems, industrial districts of Italian and projects that, starting from the exploitation of natural and human resources, they should be to break up if you did not take into account the connection between the economies of the places and economies of flows, and between processes of self-organization "bottom" of life, of living, of doing business and the global information and communication space.
