Abstract

Despite her controversial reputation, Marie le Jars de Gournay provided a remarkably influential contribution to several major debates of her time. In particular, her involvement in the linguistic field should be better focused in order to point out to which extent the ideas circulating in her literary circle enriched the history of French language and even played a part in the founding of the Académie Française.
