The essays collected in this book were delivered at the Conference “Literary Translation and Beyond/Traduzione letteraria e oltre” held in Bari, May 19-20, 2006. The Conference focussed on literary translation in the strict sense of its being a precious heritage of methodologies, rhetorical strategies and critical theories, and it also drew attention to the great number of more recent schools, fully aware of the fact that western society is constantly evolving in a multicultural and globalized direction. Most of the essays in the book mainly follow the theoretical-descriptive approach, in that they describe and comment on the translator’s choices in a translated text, test their coherence with translation norms, and highlight their epistemic implications. Other contributions refer more directly to polisystemic theories, investigating the translated text’s collocation in, and the impact on, the literary system of the target culture. The other contributors of the book are: Vittoria Intonti, Augusto Ponzio, Marie-Thérèse Jacquet,Rosangela Barone,Lorenza Rega, Bruno Pompili, Jadwiga Miszalska, Maria Cristina Consiglio, Mariacristina Petillo, Margherita Ippolito,Federico Zanettin.
