Born within the project “Cuore oltre le sbarre”, funded under the Special and Innovative Projects by “Fondazione CON IL SUD”, with the collaboration of various institutions and public and private agencies coordinated by the lead partner Sportello ELP a.p.s., aimed at the socio-medical support of families and children of inmates at the Prison of Turi (BA), the present paper reports the results of the portion devoted to the study-intervention on detainees fathers. To the participants in the experimental group was administered, before the start of the activities related to the project (T0), a psycho-diagnostic battery choose to assess their self-perception of the parental role, psychological, emotional and relational functioning using the MMPI-2, POMS, and ARP instruments. The findings were then compared with the findings of the re-test at the end of the project (T1) and the comparison with a control group. Even if it requires more numerous samples in order to obtain more generalizable results and most statistical tightness, the study reveals interesting considerations and promising preliminary results that underscore the importance, for detained people and their families, of promoting and supporting fatherhood.
