Contacte culturale europene în literatura română din anii 40 – Cazul Cercului Literar de la Sibiu

This paper analyzes the European cultural contacts in the Romanian literature of the 40s, focusing in particular on the Sibiu Literary Circle. The representatives of the Sibiu Literary Circle have not only intended to reintegrate Romanian culture into a greater European culture, but they have aimed at the Europeanization of Romanian culture. The paper, considering in particular the theoretical works of the authors belonging to Sibiu Literary Circle published primarily in “Revista Cercului Literar”, will discuss mainly: Europeity, urbanity, cosmopolitanism, the ballad as an abysmal mirror of European spirit, the euphorionism as an access to the European spirituality and the myth of the multicultural city of Sibiu.
