The study analyzes the Golem in its transition from Jewish mysticism to German and American Literature. The objective is to judge how literature elaborates the Golem tradition and its typical interpretative method. In its literary achievement the Golem becomes a myth. The artificial creature tragically aims to the fullness of human being and, in so doing, it reflects the everlasting question of identity. Golem and man are superimposed again, as they were in the Adamitic narration (Psalm 139,16 and Genesis 1, 26 and 2,7). Their overlap shows the search of a restraint among the rational and the supernatural sphere, reality and imagination, violence of history, Messianic expectation and utopia.

Abstract
The study analyzes the Golem in its transition from Jewish mysticism to German and American Literature. The objective is to judge how literature elaborates the Golem tradition and its typical interpretative method. In its literary achievement the Golem becomes a myth. The artificial creature tragically aims to the fullness of human being and, in so doing, it reflects the everlasting question of identity. Golem and man are superimposed again, as they were in the Adamitic narration (Psalm 139,16 and Genesis 1, 26 and 2,7). Their overlap shows the search of a restraint among the rational and the supernatural sphere, reality and imagination, violence of history, Messianic expectation and utopia.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
