The paper collects the available data in order to reconstruct the Byzantine governors’ praetorium in Bari between 9th and 11th century AD. We have informations firstly by the excavations of the years 1982, 1984, 1987, illustrated in detail in this book. Others data are given by both the inscription of Basilios Mesardonites (1011), celebrating the restoration of the complex and recording some buildings inside it, and the archival records, essential for the knowledge of the Byzantine city.
