The exploitation of e_learning potential is a crucial step toward the development of the Information Society, in which knowledge is the critical resource. As matter of this fact, from long time the most relevant academic institutions are involved in developing e_learning activities. The PROTEO project, which is currently in progress at the Interfaculty Center "Rete Puglia" of the University of Bari, has the relevant aim to support the whole Bari University in using e_learning effectively. For this purpose a technological infrastructure has been realized and well-defined teaching activities have been organized to train professors, managers of Faculty secretaries and students of the University of Bari on e-learning systems and methodologies. In this paper the main objectives of the PROTEO project are illustrated and the most valuable results obtained so far are described
