In the mare, endogenous opioid peptides are involved in the suppression of gonadotropin secretion in seasonal anestrus and we found a high incidence of apoptotic follicles in anestrous mares. A role of endogenous opioid peptides in promoting cell death has been reported (Yin et al., Nature 1999; 397:218) and neuronal apoptisis is associated with abnormal intracellular calcium levels (Mason et al., J Neurochem 1999;72:1448-1456). This study examines the effects of Naloxone and calcium administration on follicular development and apoptosis in anestrus mares.

Abstract
In the mare, endogenous opioid peptides are involved in the suppression of gonadotropin secretion in seasonal anestrus and we found a high incidence of apoptotic follicles in anestrous mares. A role of endogenous opioid peptides in promoting cell death has been reported (Yin et al., Nature 1999; 397:218) and neuronal apoptisis is associated with abnormal intracellular calcium levels (Mason et al., J Neurochem 1999;72:1448-1456). This study examines the effects of Naloxone and calcium administration on follicular development and apoptosis in anestrus mares.File in questo prodotto:
