EXPERIMENTAL TESTS ON SOIL SOLARIZATION WITH PHOTODEGRADABLE PLASTIC FILM AND SOIL TEMPERATURE MATHEMATICAL MODEL A mathematical model for the prediction of soil temperature during solarization was formulated and an innovative photodegradable plastic film for mulching was tested. In order to verify the model and the film soil solarization tests were carried out with the measurement of soil temperature at 10, 20, 30 e 50cm depth. The standard errors of estimate and the average errors, calculated between experimental and predicted data of soil temperature at different depths, were respectively included in the range ±0.70°C, ±1.51°C and 0.59°C, 1.29°C. The degradation of the mulching film began after 30 days and after 60 days the film was largely damaged. Finally the effects of solarization on the mortality rate of soilborne pathogens and on the reduction in weed natural infestation were investigated.
