Examined the effects of 2 approaches to teaching a programming language, the structured approach and the hypertextual approach, in 60 undergraduates. The control group was exposed to a structured form of instruction for the programming language Pascal, and the experimental group used an instructional program on the same topics for 4 hrs a week for 2 wks. No significant differences on a performance measure were found; however, the scores of the control group were concentrated in the middle of the full range, while in the experimental group there was a great variability in performance. Abstract
