Abstract

The article focuses attention on the state of coastal landscapes and fishing zones, in Italy, with regard to dynamics and control, starting with European Fisheries Fund (EFF) 2007-2013, initially known as Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG), with particular reference to Axis IV “Sustainable Development of Fishing Zones” and the adopted instrumentation for the emergency condition of the coastal landscapes and the fishing sector. The example used throughout Apulia in particular, and still in it’s project phase is that of Coastal Action Group (CAG) which works at territorial level on the Coastal Development Plan, exercising an important function in stimulating local enndogenous development, and to increase the organizational capacity of the fishing communities and encourage innovation with regard to new solutions tied specifically to each area’s needs. The project has three main principal objectives: firstly to implement a local development strategy which also will lead to social improvements; secondly to preserve and increase employment in the fishing zones, and finally to confront the socio-economic problems connected to changes in the sector and sustain diversification and reorganization.
