Abstract

Different animals of water, earth, air (and even "without nature") through the French novels of “Extreme contemporain” as characters that question, among other things, their problematic identity. The article looks at some of the works whose title has these figures as access keys to the plot. It is in this context that special options of Arno Bertina in Le dehors ou la migration des Truites (Actes Sud, 2001) and of Richard Millet's in Le Renard dans le nom (Gallimard, 2003) are questioning, novels in which animals play hide and seek between the title and the text, considering the similarities man-animals at the level of attitude and language. Why, for example, trout - fish untapped literary tradition - disappear and reappear in a manner in Bertina’s pages? What is the role of the fox in the text of Millet? The goal is in the analysis of the mechanisms that writing sets out to develop the images of animals, from the title within the work, however, taking the distances from these presences. These are no longer explicitly mentioned, but they are hidden behind a network of suggestions and structural issues such as the crossed choice of the double migration downstream and upstream that produces specific equilibria in Bertina or the cunning of Millet, such as, inter alia, the ontological glances of the character or traditional literary references.
