The study of translation through corpora has a signifcant role in the discipline as a whole in two regards. It is developing a nove and flexible methodology and is accumulating a variety of data on different languages. Corpus-based Translation Studies draws, first of all, on the methodological and theoretical insights of corpus linguistics. It has also strong links with Descriptive Translation Studies. The aim of the present paper is to examine the relationship that exists between these two areas of study with a view to assessing their main similarities and points of departure.
