The epigraphic documents of the Catacomb of St. Januarius in Naples. State of the research and views for the edition in the corpus of Inscriptiones Christianae Italiae, nova series. The study, considering the scientific edition of epigraphic documents of the catacomb of St. Ianuarius in the area of interest of the corpus “Inscriptiones Christianae Italiae septimo saeculo antiquiores”, shows reflections for a better definition of the available documents, besides the essential history of the study to define the state of the present art. The epigraphic documents, to which the reader pays attention and, considering the long use of the graveyard since the age of Mommsen, are to be considered of the Early Middle Ages instead of the Late Antiquity.
