This study aims to describe pragmatic and prosodic aspects of the repetitions. To this end, a spontaneous speech sample produced by Turkish and Spanish learners of Italian was considered. The conversational analysis results were integrated with a spectro-acoustic analysis in order to identify the intonation contours of the repeated sequences, the local demarcation phenomena, the articulatory fluency. Both the frequency and function of repetitions appear to be directly related to the degree of Italian competence. Nevertheless, many of these repetitions are not always self-repairs or hesitations but they may be used, for example, as a strategy for verbal repairs, for emphasis and prominence and finally as a strategy for gaining time for the lexical planning of the message

Abstract
This study aims to describe pragmatic and prosodic aspects of the repetitions. To this end, a spontaneous speech sample produced by Turkish and Spanish learners of Italian was considered. The conversational analysis results were integrated with a spectro-acoustic analysis in order to identify the intonation contours of the repeated sequences, the local demarcation phenomena, the articulatory fluency. Both the frequency and function of repetitions appear to be directly related to the degree of Italian competence. Nevertheless, many of these repetitions are not always self-repairs or hesitations but they may be used, for example, as a strategy for verbal repairs, for emphasis and prominence and finally as a strategy for gaining time for the lexical planning of the messageI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
