In the following case study the interaction between Italian and German students in a cooperative, virtual seminar will be examined. This online seminar tokk place in 2006, focussing on communication forms in New Media. The activities offered an opportunity to study various strategies for politeness in both German and Italian. Thus, the conceptualizations necessary for creating rapports, the assymmetries of knowledge, along with the technical conditions of online interaction, and how they differed from one culture to another, were analyzed.
