Nineteen greek book catalogues attested on papyrus, which come mainly from Oxyrhynchus, a small provincial city in Egypt, give evidence about the diffusion and circulation of books among scholars, as well as among common people, and about their storage in private or domestic libraries. A new look on this group of semi-literary papyri (which contain private letters as well as simple catalogues of books arranged alphabetically) is focused on the literature attested in the book catalogues: how many texts mentioned in these catalogues are lost and how many have been transmitted until our epoch.
