During the excavations in St. Peter’ s ecclesiastical complex in Canusium (2001-2004) were found many fragments of silver laminas, which covered a wooden reliquary. On the laminas there are representations of the maiestas Domini, flanked by Paul and Thecla, with caption inscriptions. Scenes of the cycle of the infantia Salvatoris remain, with other fragments, with plant decorations. The comparisons orient towards a dating during the V century and, reputedly, a production in the south-east area of the Asia Minor. The reliquary probably arrived in Canusium through the bishops of the city and their contacts with Constantinopolis.
