The class of slant submanifolds of almost contact metric manifolds is introduced and its general properties are studied (section 3). An intrinsic characterization of slant submanifolds of a K-contact manifold in terms of the induced metric is proved in section 4. Finally some results are given to put in evidence the relationship with the analogous notion in complex geometry (section 5).
