Due to the growing demand of “dèpaysement”, travel and tourism economic sector does not stop its increasing, representing in 2016, approximately the 10% of global GDP. Traveling, in its various forms, gives the possibility to meet world diversity in terms of persons, places, traditions, becoming an attractive formative and cultural experience. Certainly, traveling evolution history shows how, over the centuries, it has changed in quality and purpose. The novelty is that today included into to traveling basic idea and motivations there is the demand of sustainability. Intending with this term, the necessity to preserve traveling and tourism “capital” from degrade, understanding its influence on natural resources and managing it based on a sustainable development models. The object of this paper is to focus the advantages deriving from the combination of sustainable management of the “physical” traveling, in terms of resources used and avoided climate-changing gas emission and the “inner” one related to the experiential aspects linked to the discovery of different uses, traditions and cultures.
