One of the most significant indicators for assessing the quality of university study paths is the percentage of dropouts between the first and second year. The reference literature and the results that emerged from numerous specific investigations into the abandonment of the university system show that this is a crucial “joint” in the path of the students. The aim of this work is to analyze the evolution of the phenomenon in Italy, trying to bring out the factors and the motivations that influence the choices of the students, such as, for example, an incorrect orientation activity at the entrance, the need to quickly confront each other with the world of work, a supervening consciousness of not being able to deal with a specific course of study.
