Sul titolo 10.19 del Codice Teodosiano (de metallis et metallariis)

Via via che l’impero romano estese il suo dominio sui paesi rivieraschi del Mediterraneo, divenne proprietario di un numero sempre più grande di miniere e cave situate in territori conquistati con la forza delle armi, per cui si assiste a un processo continuo di concentrazione delle miniere nelle mani degli imperatori: alcune rimangono soggette al fisco, altre diventano proprietà privata del principe. Le cave di marmo erano una realtà economica e sociale di grande importanza, ma particolare rilievo, ovviamente, rivestivano le miniere d’oro e d’argento , a causa della forte richiesta di quei metalli preziosi sul mercato. Nel lavoro si è proceduto all'esegesi del titolo 10.19 del Codice Teodosiano (de metallis et metallariis) che s'incentra sull’estrazione e la vendita del marmo , sulla raccolta dell’oro e relativa tassazione, sulla fuga dei minatori.

As the Roman empire extended its dominion over the Mediterranean countries, it became the owner of an ever-increasing number of mines and quarries located in territories conquered by force of arms, so there is a continuous process of concentration of mines in the hands of emperors: some remain subject to taxation, others become private property of the prince. The marble quarries were an economic and social reality of great importance, but of particular importance obviously covered the gold and silver mines, due to the strong demand for those precious metals on the market. The work proceeded with the exegesis of title 10.19 of the Theodosian Code (de metallis et metallariis) which focuses on the extraction and sale of marble, on the collection of gold and related taxation, on the escape of the miners.
