The project Rete Puglia aims to put into operation a thematic regional network in the Apulia region of Italy. One of the main subprojects concerns the experimental work on innovative communication in local cultural organisations and art galleries. In Bari - the main city of Apulia - the Art Gallery has been reorganised by creating the following facilities: 1. a hypertextual access to the rich patrimony of the gallery; 2. a virtual reality immersion in some of the environments of the museum; 3. a language approach both for the users and the gallery employees. All of these approaches have been combined in a single project, based on intense educational activity which exploits a number of tele-education products, conceived to reinforce and complement face-to-face seminars and lectures. The objectives of the project are twofold: one is to facilitate access to culture, in places such as art galleries and museums, and to widen as much as possible its fruition; the other is to broaden the knowledge of students and experts. The model will be validated in such a way as to create a unique innovative communication model within and among the various cultural entities in the Apulia region. Finally, existing models have been taken into account, in order to be internetworkable with other international museums, galleries and cultural entities.
