Two cytosolic ascorbate-specific peroxidase isozymes, designed APX-1 and APX-2, were identified in cultivated wheats, in their diploid ancestors and some related species of Triticeae, by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Two genes controlling the production of APX-1 in tetraploid and hexaploid wheats were located on the short arm of chromosomes 2A and 2B by aneuploid analysis. The loci have been designed Apx-A1 and Apx-B1, respectively; the Apx-D1 locus is not expressed in common wheat. Apx-1 is ubiquitary and shows a high degree of conservation between genomes and varieties
