This study is divided into three main parts: the first is a general introduction to the growing discipline of Corpus Linguistics, and includes the definition of some terms specific to the subject; the second is an empirical application of these notions to words and phrases in a corpus of economics and finance. The third part is an attempt to show how corpora can unveil technical and cultural information of the countries under study, namely the UK and the US on one side, and Italy on the other side: the different collocates in the environment of our nodes will reveal that each culture has its own appropriate way of behaving and that people do things in different ways and out-of-awareness. The paper is an attempt to show how computer-aided analyses allow us to see phenomena that previously remained obscure.

Abstract
This study is divided into three main parts: the first is a general introduction to the growing discipline of Corpus Linguistics, and includes the definition of some terms specific to the subject; the second is an empirical application of these notions to words and phrases in a corpus of economics and finance. The third part is an attempt to show how corpora can unveil technical and cultural information of the countries under study, namely the UK and the US on one side, and Italy on the other side: the different collocates in the environment of our nodes will reveal that each culture has its own appropriate way of behaving and that people do things in different ways and out-of-awareness. The paper is an attempt to show how computer-aided analyses allow us to see phenomena that previously remained obscure.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
