Abstract

The so-called "Deutsche Kaiserchronik", a poem between historiography and literature, is one of the most important documents of Welf propaganda in German Middle Ages. The exam of the poem allows to infer that Italy has a key role, especially the Southern part, mostly labelled 'Pülle', demonstrating that 'Apulia' was prominent in German representations even before Frederick II Hohenstaufen.
