Abstract Empathy is an important issue for social-psychological research (Serino, Marzano 2007). It takes a fundamental role also in organizational contexts, yielding several different effects depending on the different components of empathic experience. Empathy in fact may help to improve the customer-assistant relationship, but it can also appear as a precursor risk factor, especially in health professions (Marzano, Epifani, Traversa, 2007; Miller, Stiff, Ellis, 1988). In our study, 40 healthcare operators filled in a questionnaire (on empathy and burn-out) and answered to questions on their caregiving experience. Some differences between volunteers and professionals are displayed and some developments of our research are discussed.

Abstract
Abstract Empathy is an important issue for social-psychological research (Serino, Marzano 2007). It takes a fundamental role also in organizational contexts, yielding several different effects depending on the different components of empathic experience. In our study, 40 healthcare operators filled in a questionnaire (on empathy and burn-out) and answered to questions on their caregiving experience.
