In the two Plinian letters about the villae (2,17 and 5,6) we can underline a particular application of terminology concerning sensorial perception and of sentences suggesting animation of rooms and places. These descriptive patterns, intended to involve the reader in the ekphrasis, answer to Pliny's peculiar conception of space and time.
